I managed to get my water bill down to $13 this month!
My secret - Save rain water in a plastic barrel.
You can find them used on ebay for as little as $10.
Place a window screen on top to keep mosquitos out.
Place the water barrel outside but near the bathroom.
Before using the potty, bring in a bucket of the rain water.
To flush, flip the seat up and pour the rain water in, works
like a charm!
I 'm burning a few extra calories and saving my drinking water for drinking.
A dear neighbor has given me a wonderful old ringer washer. I have
to use a corncob to plug the water basin because the plug was lost years ago.
I can use this same rain water to wash clothes with good results.
This may seem extreme to you, but it's just fun to me!
My hubby was shocked at the savings on the water bill! haha
It totally makes sense... I am from Utah, and unfortunately would only have enough rain water to flush once, maybe twice a year. Maybe if I got a freezer and kept the snow during winter time. :) It makes total sense to me though, what a waste flushing with drinking water!
ReplyDeleteI have a bucket in our shower and while we're waiting for the water to heat up we collect the cold. I use that to flush the toilet. I have a rain barrel for water for the garden. I'm not seeing much savings in my water bill - I have two teenagers!
ReplyDeleteI live in a pretty dry state as well so collecting rain isn't always an option for me but I do like pmernick's idea about collecting the shower water as it heats up.
ReplyDeletepmernick's idea is great! I bought a tankless water heater and one big benefit is not wasting water waiting for the hot water to get to the shower. I never thought of collecting and using it. Thanks!pmernick
