Raising Money For Breast Cancer - Lee National Denim Day , How did we do?

Dear Kathy,

Congratulations, you did it!

Today, all of your hard work is making a difference. Because of your involvement, and thousands of other participants, we're projecting between $4 million and $5 million in total donations, bringing our 15-year total to nearly $85 million!

The difference this money makes to fight breast cancer is immeasurable, but we know for certain the funds raised will positively impact the important work of the Women's Cancer Programs of EIF, including:

• Lee Laboratories nationwide, which work to find more effective, less toxic treatments for breast cancer and increase patient access to some of the most significant clinical trials in the nation
• A multiyear effort led by world-class scientists to develop a blood test for earlier detection of breast cancer when survival rates are the highest, known as the EIF Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project

In addition, funds raised will go to local affiliates of the Cancer Support Community, uniting The Wellness Community and Gilda's Club Worldwide. The Cancer Support Community is an international nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer in communities worldwide.

Do You Shop the Thrift Stores? saved $352. on 2 items

regular $225 at JCPenneys - purchased for $4.99 Thrift Shop.

Recently a BlogFrog friend asked "Do you shop at Thrift Shops?"
LOL, YES! I can support a charity (Boys Youth Ranch, Goodwill, etc.)
and stay on my budget at the same time. I don't buy junk or dust catchers (nick nacks).
I buy necessities.
We have a great Thrift Shop in Lisbon, ND where I shop.
I had two great finds yesterday:

1. a heavy winter coat with hood, looked it up online, it's $225. regular price
at JCPenneys, my cost $4.99 in new condition
2. Shiatsu Massaging Cushion - $134.84 with tax and shipping at Home Depot -
my cost $1.99 in new condition
I saved a total of $352.84 just on these two items!

If I had purchased them at full price with a credit card
I could expect to pay on them for quite a while.
Instead I shopped Thrift, paid cash and saved enough
to buy a freezer! Yay!

Living Green - Why do you flush your toilet with drinking water?

I managed to get my water bill down to $13 this month!

My secret - Save rain water in a plastic barrel.
You can find them used on ebay for as little as $10.
Place a window screen on top to keep mosquitos out.

Place the water barrel outside but near the bathroom.
Before using the potty, bring in a bucket of the rain water.
To flush, flip the seat up and pour the rain water in, works
like a charm!

I 'm burning a few extra calories and saving my drinking water for drinking.
A dear neighbor has given me a wonderful old ringer washer. I have
to use a corncob to plug the water basin because the plug was lost years ago.
I can use this same rain water to wash clothes with good results.

This may seem extreme to you, but it's just fun to me!
My hubby was shocked at the savings on the water bill! haha
